KSA takes the client’s program and design ideas and uses a research-based approach to creating simple, beautiful buildings. The research involves:
Models of the building and site are created from the initial design stages in parallel with hand sketches, interior and exterior renderings, as well as images collected by the client and the KSA team.
Inspired by art and popular culture and grounded in a multi-decade career in architecture that has seen him working on major building projects across Canada, Kent established KSA Group Architecture in 2011. A unique architectural firm, KSA is a team of professionals assembled around Kent’s unique passion for his work.
Kent grew up in Swift Current, Saskatchewan; studied at the University of Saskatchewan [Political Science] for two years and completed a degree in Architecture from Carleton University in Ottawa. He practised architecture in Vancouver for 12 years, returning home to Saskatchewan in 2000.
Nathalie brings 15 years of experience as a controller/office manager to KSA, including 7 years in a project management firm. Her dynamic background in finance and administration will enable Nathalie to ensure all client needs and expectations are being met or exceeded at every opportunity.
Sarah brings to KSA her educational background in Architectural Technologies from SAIT Polytechnic and Mount Royal University in Calgary, AB. With experience in project management in both residential and commercial projects, as well as architectural design and technology and site supervision, Sarah’s diversified knowledge set makes her a valued member of our team. We, as well as our clients, benefit from this experience, along with Sarah’s positive, professional approach to all aspects of her work. Sarah is also currently on the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) for Architectural Technologies.
With over 8 years experience in the industry, Jered previously worked as a Building Information Modeling [BIM] Manager and Project Designer in Toronto. Born and raised in Regina, Jered has recently returned home to his Saskatchewan roots. Jered has experience managing several concurrent high-performance renovations and new construction projects including multi-unit residential buildings and high efficient floor plates. With an interest in sustainability and high-performance building technology, Jered is committed to achieving a systems integrated design which provides the client with a high-efficiency building resulting in significant cost savings.
A 2017 graduate of Architectural Technologies at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw Campus, Jerrad brings to KSA his experience working with 2 Saskatoon General Contractors during his work terms. His site and contract administration experience, coupled with his interest in building envelopes [building science] bring excellent technical depth to KSA.
A student of Architectural Technologies at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw campus, Jon has a background in education, receiving his Bachelor of Kinesiology/Education in 2013 from the University of Saskatchewan. Jon brings his diverse skill set and strong work ethic to KSA. Knowledgeable in the latest versions of AutoCAD and Revit, Jon contributes to the production of KSA’s conceptual and working drawings.
A student of Architectural Technologies at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw campus and entering his first work term, Jesse brings to us his willingness to accept new challenges and his eagerness to learn and assist all technologists in the office. Jesse will be learning drawing standards, site construction admin, and any other tasks as assigned to him.
At KSA we welcome students to work with us for a variety of work terms throughout the course of any given year. School is great, but at KSA they are able to put their theoretical training into practice within a professional setting that has real world expectations. Taking on students is something we’ve been doing for a long time and we are always happy to have them.
KSA welcomes opportunities to create working relationships with outside experts and broaden our knowledge base. For example, Randy Smith, a building envelope specialist at Williams Engineering in Calgary, has offered his assemblies. Mark Lucuik has flown in from his office at Morrison Hershfield in Ottawa to lead an all-day sustainable design charrette. And Frank Mattia of LMDG Building Code Consultants in Vancouver has proposed cost-saving alternative solutions to national building code requirements.
Lara provides building code expertise for all KSA projects. Located in Saskatoon, D-Code Engineering Ltd. is a consulting firm that provides engineering consulting and advisory services specifically related to Building Code requirements.D-Code Engineering holds a Certificate of Authorization from the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and its principal engineer Lara DeRosier is a Professional Engineer with Permission to Consult specifically in the area of code compliance.
A recent graduate of the Recording Arts Institute of Saskatoon, with proven experience in cinematography and editing. Motivated and passionate about maintaining the connection between clients needs and personal style. Brooklyn has photographed some of our newest KSA projects.
KSA uses MLT Aikins LLP for legal advice, contracts, tendering processes and risk management. MLT Aikins LLP is an expertise-based, full service law firm with offices across western Canada. They have in-depth knowledge of the region’s business, legal and political landscapes.
KSA collaborates with Kevin on custom furniture, art installations and custom fabrication. Located in Saskatoon, fabARTS is a boutique fabrication studio focused on constructing art and architectural fabrications for architects, designers, artists, and contractors.
Located in Vancouver, LMDG provide Fire Protection and Life Safety Solutions: code compliance analysis, alternative solutions, negotiations with Building Departments on behalf of clients, certified professional services, and fire modelling.
Located in Calgary, Williams Engineering provide consulting engineering services for both new construction projects and existing buildings. KSA uses Randy Smith’s expertise in building envelope, site reviews of wall and roofing systems during construction, envelope engineering (infrared cameras & heat loss analysis).
KSA works with Morrison Hershfield (MH) for LEED projects and as sustainable design specialists. MH also provides energy modelling, reviews of mechanical systems and expertise involving “Zero Carbon Buildings”.
Milos Raonic, a Serbian architect who works at the Belgrade-based architecture office of RAUM, has been called upon to offer fresh design perspectives. Milos provided alternative design ideas and exterior renderings, for example, the Streetscape East commercial development.
Mark is a classmate of Kent’s from architectural school. Mark is an independently wealthy “flaneur” who lives in Naples, Florida and provides architectural design alternatives, renderings and peer review.
