McEown Park is the grouping of four high-rise student residence buildings located south of the main University of Saskatchewan campus.
They were built between 1969 and 1976, the total area of the four buildings being 330,000 square feet. The replacement cost for all four buildings totals over $100M. The U of S required a renewal study to allow for long term planning. The cost to renovate the buildings totals $80M. The renewal study included the costs to address the most immediate needs: building code deficiencies related to sprinkler systems and exiting. The study included a variety of renewal options; including re-purposing of portions of the buildings and the identification of utility savings due to improved wall and roof insulation and new windows.
